coming summer, 2012...

HUDSON STREET WRITERS' DOJO
a daily writing practice space
West Village, NYC
Monday through Friday, July 2-31, 9-10am
$20/session. Pay for four in advance, and the fifth is free.

Ellis wrote THE TEAHOUSE FIRE in an hour a day over a period of years. For one month this winter, five mornings a week, one hour a day, she will open her home and writing practice to people who want to challenge themselves to write daily in a silent, focused, community environment. We'll use the last five minutes of each session to give each other a little positive feedback, but the core of this practice is diving in and DOING the work, not showing it or talking about it. Use peer pressure to your advantage: write your morning pages, or write your novel!

Come write for a few days, come once a week, or challenge yourself to write five mornings a week for a month: all are welcome. For more information, please contact ellisavery (at) gmail (dot) com.

coming next fall...

EVERY WEEK IS A GOOD WRITING WEEK
a writing workshop

Monday nights, 7-9pm, for eight weeks starting 10/1/12.
$450, $400 if you register before 9/14.
Location: West Village, NYC.

To register, please contact ellisavery (at) gmail (dot) com.
Class is limited to 7 students.

Share your work and receive generous, clear-eyed feedback, nurturing support, and a little bit of anti-procrastinatory ass-kicking in an intimate, respectful community environment.

Every week for eight weeks, you'll get fifteen minutes to do whatever you want with your writing, whether that means read and get feedback on your newest three pages, brainstorm about your writing goals and challenges, or have us write together for fifteen minutes: it's your time!

Additionally, Ellis will be available to read longer work and to meet with each writer for an hour to discuss it.

Commit to yourself: re-ignite your fiction and creative non-fiction!

Ellis is also available for one-on-one manuscript consultation, $80/hour.

Kudos from Ellis's Columbia students:

My favorite class! You will be impressed with how much you have written and how much you have improved.

She gives so much heartfelt encouragement, along with in-depth comments that really help to improve your writing.
